What’s Inspiring Us Now
The Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibition is now open at The Barbican!
Our online fabric shop expert Espen, who caught the exhibition in San Francisco in 2012 says “most of the mannequins (and there were hundreds) had projected faces; some were talking, some were singing, some were interactive, with Gaultier himself at the entrance. It was fabulous”! Here are some of Espen’s snaps.
Lace has always featured in Gauliter’s work. This delicate scroll-border French Chantilly is a classic design, which we have available in a number of colours. Here we show it in nautical navy with a nude silk satin underlay.
We thought we would take a look at where the magic happens; Gaultier’s atelier in Paris, where artist Jergen Bey takes traditional silhouettes and covers them with Lycra to create interesting shapes and textures, stretching the fabric over inanimate objects; mainly furniture and architectural features. At our sister shop, The Berwick Street Cloth Shop you’ll find a large range of Lycra, knitted, stretch and jersey fabrics should you wish to re-create the look yourself!
Head down to the Barbican to get inspired. The exhibition continues until 25th August 2014.
